Kitchen and Housekeeping Assistant - Olivet, Birmingham

At our site in Acocks Green, we are looking for a bank Kitchen and Housekeeping Assistant to work across both areas. The successful candidate will help to create a warm and homely environment that enables us to meet each resident’s needs. In this role you will help prepare nutritious and appetising meals for our residents, ensuring that mealtimes are a highlight of their day. You will also be responsible for maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety within the kitchen. You will also play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable home for our residents. Your attention to detail and commitment to high standards will contribute to the smooth operation of the home and the wellbeing of those in our care.

Key responsibilities:

Kitchen Assistant

- Assist the Head Chef in cooking high-quality meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of residents.

- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations.

- Store food safely and hygienically in accordance with food safety regulations.

- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and care teams to deliver a positive dining experience.


Housekeeping Assistant

- Perform daily cleaning tasks as directed by the Housekeeping Supervisor.

- Vacuum and wash carpets and stairs, and wash floor areas.

- Clean and maintain toilets, baths and washbasins, ensuring adequate supplies of soap, hand towels, and toilet rolls.

- Dust and polish furniture and fittings.

- Clean windows, walls, and paintwork as required.

- Dispose of rubbish and clinical waste following proper procedures.

- Understand the appropriate cleaning methods and materials for different surfaces.

- Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, visitors, and colleagues.


Person Specification:

- Previous experience working in a similar role or care setting.

- Understanding of the importance of mealtimes for older, vulnerable individuals.

- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety regulations.

- A strong team player with a positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile.

- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage time effectively.

- A caring and approachable nature.

- Good practical cleaning skills and attention to detail.

- Reliability and proactive attitude.

- Willingness to undertake training to develop within the role.
